  • ½ kg                     Prawns (medium-sized)
  • ½ kg                     Sela rice (soaked)
  • 1 tbsp                   Garlic paste
  • 1 tsp                      Cumin seeds
  • 8 each                  Cloves, Green cardamoms
  • 1 bunch                Mint (finely cut)
  • To taste                Salt
  • ½ cup                   Clarified butter
  • For frying            Oil

Masala Ingredients:

  • 2 Onions (finely cut)
  • 1 tbsp Garlic (Chopped)
  • 1/2 tsp Turmeric powder
  • 1 tbsp Coriander seeds (crushed)
  • 1 tbsp Hot Spices powder
  • 2 tbsp Red Chili powder
  • 5 Tomatoes (chopped)
  • 4 Green Chilies (whole)
  • 1/4 tsp Chinese Salt
  • to taste Salt
  • 1/2 cup Clarified butter


  • Heat clarified butter in a pot, fry cloves, cardamoms, and cumin
  • Add rice and 2 cups water, parboil, strain
  • Marinate prawns with garlic and salt
  • Heat oil in a wok, fry prawns golden, remove
  • Heat clarified butter in a separate wok, fry garlic, and onions, cook with remaining masala ingredients till tomatoes are well mixed
  • In a wide-necked pot, layer 1/2 masala at the bottom
  • Add 1/2 rice on top of it and finally add remaining masala, rice, and prawns on top
  • Keep on dum
